What is Horsepower

Horsepower Inc. (HPi) is the leader in v-twin fuel injection, specializing the in the manufacturing design of high performance parts engineered to provide more power and overall performance located on Gasoline Alley in Indianapolis, IN.  We proudly serve over 300 dealers in the United States and Worldwide.  All aspects of the manufacturing and design process are completed in house, on state-of-the-art machining equipment from United States material and United States labor.

HPi was the first company to manufacture an aftermarket throttle body and intake replacement for the Harley-Davidson® industry and has continued to lead the way in v-twin fuel injection.  With their success in quality of parts and knowledge in the industry, HPi has been able to keep up with the changes of design Harley-Davidson® has made to their existing components and have expanded their product line offering a throttle body upgrade for every fuel injected Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.

A key advantage over competitors is the fact that HPi continues to react to changes in the fuel injection market before anyone else.  They are one of the only companies to offer a throttle body for all makes and models of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles that fits all popular build specifications, while staying O.E.M. compatible making the product affordable for consumers.  Their technology, quality and knowledge in parts is also unmatched.

Over the years HPi has invested tremendously in new technology to produce quality products they are proud to stand behind.  Through knowledge in the industry, new design software, multi-axis machining centers, inspection equipment, and overall great customer service, Horsepower has excelled where others have failed.

About Horsepower

Horsepower Inc. was established in 2002.  It’s sister company, Integrated Machine Co., out of Erie, Pennsylvania helped start it all when members of he machine shop started tearing down a stock Harley-Davidson® motorcycle and quickly found there was a need for a performance throttle body in the market.

Mary Jo Light who still owns and operates the machine company out of Erie, Pennsylvania, wrote up a local business plan for the new product idea and won a grant which helped kick off the start of Horsepower Inc.  The HPi team took their first product to the V-Twin Expo industry tradeshow, and it’s been mostly full throttle since then.

The 2008 economic crisis was a slight bump in the road.  The machine shop that also manufactures for fire equipment and automotive industries, saw a decrease in regular production orders that forced them to let go of some employees.  Mary Jo’s son, Jimmy, at the time was living in Indianapolis, Indiana competing in dirt oval track racing, but decided to move back home temporarily with his girlfriend at the time, Laura so they could both help more intensively with the family business.

Jimmy worked closely with head engineer and machinist, Eric Henderson on the product designs and research and development.  Laura spent several years managing the company website, designing marketing materials, branding the Horsepower name on social media, and attending the industry tradeshows.  In 2012, Jimmy and Laura moved back to Indiana, got married and opened the new Horsepower location.  They took over all sales and operation in Indiana, expanded the product line and now have 12 full time employees in house.

Eric Henderson has been part of Horsepower since it’s beginning, machining the fire and automotive equipment parts before getting involved in the performance Horsepower end.  He has a true passion for machining and engineering that has helped grow the business and their entire product line.  Eric has learned Mastercam CAD/CAM systems and SolidWorks which is the world’s leading modeling software and the world’s most widely-used CAM software available to manufacturers.  Having the best software is only one ingredient for success and Eric utilizes this with excellence from general purpose methods such as optimized pocketing to highly specialized toolpaths like 5-axis full CNC porting.

For fun, Mary Jo and Eric enjoy traveling and competing in selected drag races throughout the U.S. with several different industry series.  Mary Jo also enjoys spending time with her children, son, Jimmy (Laura) and daughter, Jamie (Chris) and grandson, Layne (Jimmy and Laura’s son) in Indiana.

Bryan Salisbury is Erie's manufacturing location Production Manager, playing the important role of manufacturing scheduling and material purchasing.  He and Laura work closely on the company's product line production and scheduling.
